Getting Licensed

Getting Licensed in Idaho

INTRODUCTION

The Idaho Real Estate Commission requires that all licensees take 90 hours of pre-license education as a live course. There is no option to take these hours online at this time in Idaho. There are two Modules (1 & 2) that are required. Most people take the modules consecutively but that is not required. Module 1 focuses on real estate industry principles, theory and applications. Module 2 focuses on the practice of real estate including pricing, contracts and ethics. Both Modules have final tests that you must pass to be eligible to take the state licensing test.

STEPS TO BECOMING LICENSED

1.  Register and complete pre-licensing Modules 1 & 2

We offer both pre-licensing Modules 1 & 2 at Real Estate Academy of Idaho – North Idaho.  Each module is 45 hours of education that combine to make an intensive introduction into the world of real estate in Idaho.  The courses are offered in consecutive weeks.  You must take Module 1 first, but you can choose to take Module 2 immediately after or wait until a subsequent offering.  All prelicense courses are live courses – there is no online option available in Idaho.

2. Schedule and obtain fingerprinting with Pearson VUE

You will also need to get fingerprints before you can get a license.  It can take up to 6 weeks for the prints to be processed.  We recommend scheduling a time as soon as you can – no need to wait until your courses are over!  You can schedule a time through Pearson Vue here.  There are two fingerprint and testing centers; Nexus Training and Consulting is located at 175 W Dalton Ave, Coeur D’ Alene ID 83815 and Pearson Professional Center is located 1410 N Mullan Rd Suite 203, Spokane Valley WA 99206.  The cost for having fingerprints taken is approximately $60.00.

3.  Schedule state exam with Pearson VUE

Upon completion of prelicense Modules 1 and 2, you will be prepared to take the federal and state exam.  You can schedule this test immediately following your courses or you can wait for up to six months after completing the prelicensing modules.  We recommend taking the exam as close to the completion of your courses as you feel comfortable.  The longer you wait, the harder it may be to recall the information learned.  To schedule the exam, you can schedule a time through Pearson Vue here or you can call them at (877) 540-5833.  The testing center is also the location of the fingerprinting in the Pearson Vue Office.  The cost for the exam is $85.00 each time you take it.

4.  Apply for your real estate license

Upon completion of the tests and the fingerprinting, you are prepared to apply for a license.  You will need to complete the Idaho Real Estate Commission Salesperson License Application.  You will need the verification of fingerprints, your certificates from Modules 1 & 2, a high school or college diploma or transcripts, and the completed application.  The cost for applying for a license is $160.00.

5.  Interview real estate brokers

Local brokerage representatives will be present during lunch throughout the two weeks of our pre-licensing modules.

Upon completion of the above steps, you are ready to embark on your real estate career in Idaho!  From first licensing to every renewal after, the Real Estate Academy of Idaho – North Idaho will be there providing your educational needs.
